Only a few more hours until Deb and I are on our way to Austin (via San Francisco and Salt Lake City) and QuiltCon 2015. It’s been a while since I’ve done any international travel, I’d forgotten how much there is to organise. I’ve been madly racing around ticking everything off my list. My family are staying behind, my parents and in-laws have been called in to help with school pick-ups and after school activities. I haven’t spent more than two nights away from my children before so it will be an experience for myself and them! If you’re interested in what the Kiwi girls are up to at QuiltCon check out our hashtag on IG, #kiwisatquiltcon.
I have squeezed in a little sewing in the last few weeks. First up are these cute pouches made using Svetlana’s latest pattern, the Lola Pouch. I helped with the pattern testing and these pouches really deserve their own post, so that’s all I’ll say for now, except that they’re coming with me and I can’t wait to make more of them (and how cute is that inset zipper!).
I’ve also done a little pattern testing for Aylin’s new Bubbles pattern. I adore this little block and will make something special with it when I get home!
Last weekend was a long weekend in New Zealand which meant I could sneak in a little sewing, I decided that I needed to start a Tessa Basket right away. The pattern is by Bonnie from Pink Stitches. The fun thing about this pattern is that you can easily adjust the size of the finished basket. I used 3 1/2″ cut squares and made panels that were about 18″ by 12″. I used some of my precious Karen Lewis Textile charms and Carolyn Friedlander fabrics. And one Anna Maria Horner print just for fun. I love how it turned out, I’m thinking these baskets will make great swap items.
And one more photo from what has been a very busy month, this one was taken on our annual camping holiday.

Love those pouches, I just received a bundle of Doe fabrics, they are awesome! You’ve made a pretty bubble block! Safe travels to Austin, can’t wait to hear about your quilt journey!
Wow hOw exciting! Have a wonderful time and I look forward to reading all about it. Maybe one year I can join the exodus from NZ for Quiltcon.

Cute pouches, I am seeing a lot of repeated colour happening there, is this your palette for 2015?
I hope you have a wonderful time Rachel – you deserve it. I'm sure your kids and husband will be just fine with your parents and in-laws there to help out. See everything, try everything, and come back brimming with new ideas and new friendships. Wishing you a great time. Wendy.
